I am brimming with excitement of the New Year and happy to share a new opportunity for my glass art career.

I have been accepted to A Gallery in Salt Lake City. This will be the go to gallery to find my sculptural art from this point forward. I have found that I need one gallery to house my collection so that I may concentrate on furthering my career nationally and internationally. They are already keeping me very busy. More to come on that when I have photos.

I am looking forward to participating in Gallery Strolls and other Gallery openings. I will keep you apprised of all the A Gallery happenings. The next opening will be a sculpture show on January 20th, 6-9 PM.

Sarinda Jones – Fused glass / Kiln Formed Glass Magnet

Sun, June 26, 1 pm, 4 pm & 7 pm (Click Here To Book Your Time)

This workshop will help understand the mysteries of melting glass with a small 1.5"x1.5" magnet. These projects will be assembled by you with pre-cut glass and then kiln fired. A magnet will then be glued to the back. This is a great experiment to see how glass behaves under heat. You will have this UAF souvenir to place in your home or office.

PLEASE NOTE: All participants will need to wear cotton clothing, covered shoes (no sandals or open toed shoes), have their hair tied back if it's long and wear sunglasses.

Salt Lake Center for Science Education

I have been notified by Salt Lake City Arts Council that I was granted Artist-in-the-Classroom and it is funded.

What this means is that I will be able to teach Glass Art to the students who attend Salt Lake Center for Science Education "Artist-in-the-Classroom" program. I believe that Art and Science go hand in hand and that our future scientists will need the skills to think creativity with problem solving and critical thinking. I am looking forward to sharing my talents with these young people and will enjoy every minute of it.

2010 Architectural Glass Residency

This last June I was apart of an amazing residency in the Highlands of Scotland. What a magical place with magical people. For a peek into the experience from an observers eyes. I will direct you to Bullseye Glass Company Blog "To BE or not to BE" authored by Lani McGregor.

I have found this experience has been a esoteric and a profound one, that I have not yet put all the pieces or words together at the moment. However, as a visual artist I am sure you will see this vein in my coming works.

I have been taking some time to update my inventory and work on some gallery openings that are quickly approaching. So I have not been out to my favorite selling spot at the Gateway Mall for the last few weeks and I am looking forward to this Saturday to see everyone. I will be there from 10 am to later in the evening....

The detailed image is some of the new work I am creating for the Art Access show in February. Based on my shenanigans in Scotland this last June. This piece is a thick cast piece of glass that will resonate being submerged under water. I feel the experience of Scotland is transforming my work and taking an interesting turn.

Utah Artist With A Dream...

I have been personally invited to participate in an international Glass Residency at Northlands Creative in Lybster, Scotland by two internationally renowned glass artists, Steve Klein and Richard Parish. The art business is all about whom you study with and the connections that are made through these kinds of experiences. By participating I will bring back valuable knowledge of architectural kiln-glass work, which I will in turn contribute back to our Utah community via teaching, public art projects and apprenticeships.

As an artist attempting to create artwork for public “Percent for Art” projects and/or private buildings, I must address issues which aren’t necessarily considered when just making glass art objects. Issues such as building use/function, scale, spatial quality, materiality, history, structure, and local tradition (in art and construction) are more critical. It was not possible to write for grants to help with the funding needed in this short time frame. I was feeling I had worked 10 years to get to this very important moment in my life and career but the invitation and opportunity was hinging on a few thousand dollars. Some friends suggested an innovative concept offering others an option of buying shares in my success.

This residency will cost a total of $5,440.00+. I am not receiving a stipend and unfortunately there are no scholarships available. I am currently $2,000.00 away from my goal. Actual costs are:

• $1,440.00 for the Residency Tuition.

• $2,500.00 Flight and Lodging

• $1,500.00 Miscellaneous Expenses (glass/supplies).

I am asking you to assist me by buying a share of this educational opportunity. You’ll be able to learn through this experience with me. After I return, I will present my success and experiences through slides, commentary, and a small celebration event in early August.

With a contribution of:

• $50.00 - you’ll be invited to join me at a celebration event with appetizers and wine when I return home with slides and lots of enthusiasm!

• $150.00 - you’ll receive an invitation to the celebration event and a small inspirational kiln formed glass piece.

• $300.00 - you’ll receive an invitation to the celebration event, small inspirational kiln formed glass piece AND join me in my studio for a four hour session to create your own small glass art piece (date to be negotiated)

Time is critical to participate in the residency. I need to have plans made by May 25th, 2010.

This year the Utah Arts Council had 184 artists submit 316 pieces of artwork. The jurors, Pete Grady and Regina Benson, were pleased and impressed with the quality of work Utah artists are creating. They chose 73 pieces by 63 artists for Utah's Crafts and Photography.

The Utah Arts Council has chosen two of my sculptures to be exhibited in the show. I would love to see you at the opening at Rio Gallery on Oct. 16 6pm-9pm during Gallery Stroll.

Here is a sneak peek at some new work for the American Craft Council Show in San Francisco next week. We will be celebrating the 34th year of American Craft Council. Guests can indulge in wine tasting from top vineyards and be part of entertaining and informative demonstrations throughout the weekend. Including Green Craft Artists using found, recycled, eco-friendly materials and AltCraft, this section features rising indie craft artists whose work illustrates the innovative techniques and materials of the burgeoning new handmade movement. UMFA: Splendid Heritage

This February the Utah Museum of Fine Arts Premiered this landmark exhibition. I have created a line of jewelry to celebrate this exhibit and American Indian Art. Hand forged brushed sterling silver with bezels of resin coated paper of Native American Art. Each piece comes with a description of what the artifact is, Tribe and Circa.

This five ring set features a bit of an image of a Kachina carving supernatural carrying (Polik Mana), Hopi, circa 1940. The Hopi and other Pueblo peoples carve figure to represent the Kachinas, supernatural beings responsible for carrying the prayers of the people to the heavens.

This pendant set features a bit of an image of Leggings, Tlingit, circa 1880 including a small sterling date stamp hanging from 16" ball chain. It was common for the Tlingit people, on important occasions, to wear garments decorated with designs of crest animals, such as this frog design.

"In 2009 Ballet West will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Ballets Russes- In the same spirit of collaboration and invitation that inspired Diaghilev at the start of the 20th century, Ballet west is reaching out to the artistic community here in Utah to see what artists have to offer in the 21st century.

What happens to the shoes? The shoes will be auctioned off at the Ballet West Fashion Show (May 30, 2009) with all proceeds going to Ballet West. In addition the shoes will be displayed at various Ballet West events preceding the fashion show."

Well here is the some of the crew taking a break from (the inspiring) Bob Leatherbarrow glass workshop. A big thanks to the Glass Guild of Utah and Cheryl Deis for organizing such a fabulous educator and of course Thanks to Bullseye Glass Company for the glass donation.

The workshop was plentiful in new techniques and loads of information everything from basic kilnforming skills to how to present your artwork and photographing art. I would recommend Bob's workshop to anyone interested in glass, he keeps the class involved with one another and all skill levels. Thanks Bob for your generosity.

Next Gallery opening is at Terzian Galleries in Park City on Friday November 28th in conjunction with Gallery Stroll. I can't think of a better way to spend the day after Thanksgiving...

2008 Utah Art Festival

"Take Part in Art" was the theme of this years four day festival and a lot of people took part. I am not certain of the attendance yet, I know that I did my fair share of talking. I saw a lot of new artists this year and I am always amazed of what people can create.

I am grateful that I was one of many invited demonstrating artists this year. I enjoy teaching and will share information with anyone who is interested in knowing more about glass art and the process.

Thank you to everyone who participated in putting together this phenomenal Arts Festival and of course all who sponsor it.

Another beautiful, busy day at the Park. Here are some friends from the Farmers' Market..... Someone needs to give John some coffee.

I will have a new booth space on July 6th it is just south of the last location on the corner. Just turn around and you will find me.

Also- I will not be at the Farmers' Market on the 28th. BUT... you can find me at the Utah Arts Festival by the City County Building. I will be one the Demonstrating Artist Booths so come and learn more about Glass Art and how kiln forming is done.

The Utah Arts Council, 2008 Design Arts Utah Show opened Friday June 20 in conjunction with Gallery Stroll, celebrating this years 16 winners.

I would like to Thank Juror Jennifer Morla and the Utah Arts Council for choosing me to participate in this years show. When I applied my hope was to get a critique on my application and suggestions on what to improve on. I was completely surprise when my work was selected.

Most of the participants are in fields such as Architecture, Product Design and Graphic Design. Everything from a new design for a wheelchair, Transit shelter project to modern Navajo residence constructed from recycled or discarded materials with an emphasis on using solar water heating systems and energy efficiency.

Again Thank you to the Utah Arts Council and all of the Participants of the show.

Opening Day at Farmers' Market

Well Summer is finally here..... The Farmers' Market opened with a huge bang. Patrons were as excited as I was, people were starting to arrive around 7:30 am. The weather had to have played a big part in such a successful day. I love seeing all of my market friends and spending the day in the park. Thank you again everyone. See you next Saturday.
